La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet is a wine produced from the youngest vines on the estate, and from the plots whose soil is most favourable to the production of very good Merlot. Indeed, this grape variety accounts for half of the blend of this wine. These vines represent about twenty hectares which benefit throughout the year from the same care and work as the whole vineyard.
The wine takes its name from the "demoiselle", a species of dragonfly that lives in the Médoc. Lightness and elegance are two qualifiers that characterise the wine and the insect.
The majority of Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet is matured in vats, so as to preserve the freshness and fruitiness of the Merlot grape, which makes it easy and pleasant to drink in its early years. It is an ideal accompaniment to grilled meats, fish and shellfish specialities.
