Domaine de Marchandise, located in the Côtes de Provence appellation, has a rich history rooted in the region's winemaking tradition. Here's an overview of its history and development:

Domaine de Marchandise was founded several centuries ago, with its origins dating back to the Middle Ages. The first vineyards were planted by monks or local lords, as was often the case in this part of France. Over the centuries, the estate gradually expanded. The development of viticulture in Provence and improvements in farming techniques led to an expansion of the vineyards and an improvement in the quality of the wine produced.

The estate underwent significant modernisation during the 20th century. The owners invested in modern equipment, improved winemaking techniques and adopted more sustainable, environmentally-friendly viticultural practices. Thanks to these efforts, the Marchandise estate has gained recognition both locally and nationally. The wines produced here began to receive awards and praise from critics and wine lovers alike.

Today, Domaine de Marchandise produces a range of wines, mainly rosés, but also reds. The terroir of the region, characterised by its limestone soil and Mediterranean climate, plays a crucial role in the quality of the wines produced. The estate is committed to sustainable viticultural practices, including organic and biodynamic farming. This approach aims to preserve the environment while producing high-quality wines.

Domaine de Marchandise continues to embody the spirit and tradition of the Côtes de Provence, while innovating and adapting to the modern demands of viticulture and wine production.

L’article Domaine de Marchandise rouge 2022 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

A vineyard that has been entirely restored since its acquisition in 1991 by Patricia Ortelli. The vines have been replanted in a north-south direction on land with a balanced limestone texture that has been subsoiled, drained and levelled and extends over several sunny terraces. Situated at an altitude of 380 m in a cone generating a microclimate, this terroir is very favourable to vines already cultivated by the Romans.

The soil is maintained according to ancient practices = claws, ploughing, no weedkillers or chemical fertilisers. The treatments are traditional, essentially copper and sulphur. Since 1996, the vineyard has been certified organic (ECOCERT control).

L’article Château La Calisse Rosé 2023 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

Château La Lagune is located in the Haut-Médoc region of Bordeaux. The first traces of Château La Lagune date back to the 18th century. At that time, the property was already being used for wine production, but it was only later that it gained renown.

Château La Lagune was included in the official classification of Bordeaux wines drawn up for the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1855. It was awarded the status of 3rd Grand Cru Classé, a recognition that underlined the exceptional quality of its wines. The estate underwent several changes of ownership during the 20th century. In 1956, René Chayoux acquired the estate and undertook major investments to modernise the winemaking facilities and vineyards. In 2000, Caroline Frey and her family bought Château La Lagune. Caroline Frey, a passionate oenologist, has continued to modernise viticultural practices and maintain the estate's reputation for excellence.

Today, Château La Lagune covers an area of around 80 hectares, much of which is planted with noble grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The vines benefit from an exceptional terroir, with gravelly soils and favourable exposure. Château La Lagune wines are renowned for their elegance, structure and ageing potential. They embody the tradition and savoir-faire of the Haut-Médoc region, while continuing to evolve under the guidance of dedicated owners like Caroline Frey.

L’article Château La Lagune 3ème Grand Cru Classé 2015 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

Gaja is an Italian wine producer from the Piemonte region in the district of Langhe, chiefly producing a number of Barbaresco and Barolo wines, and later diversified into Brunello and "Super-Tuscan" production. Its current owner and president Angelo Gaja is credited with developing techniques that have revolutionised winemaking in Italy, and terms such as "the undisputed king of Barbaresco", and "the man who dragged Piedmont into the modern world" have been applied to him, and whose Barbaresco wine is considered a status symbol on a par with Château Lafite-Rothschild or Krug.

The Gaja winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, the Gaja family having arrived from Spain during the 17th century. The family Gaja opened a tavern in Barbaresco, serving its wines with the food. At the end of the 19th century, Gaja wines were bottled and supplied to the Italian army in Abyssinia.

In 1937, Giovanni Gaja, grandson of the founder, first put the name Gaja in big red letters on his bottles' labels. The firm progressed following World War II as Giovanni Gaja made a significant series of vineyard purchases in terms of scale and vineyard quality. Also cited as an important influence to the firm's early success is the mother of Giovanni Gaja, Clotilda Rey, who instilled the principles of working to achieve high quality to attract the desired clientele, and set high prices to manifest the prestige of the product.

L’article Angelo Gaja Barbaresco Costa Russi 2006 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

Château Lagrange is a wine estate located in the Saint-Julien appellation, one of the most prestigious appellations in the Médoc, in the Bordeaux wine region of France. Its history goes back several centuries. The first traces of a vineyard at Lagrange date back to the Middle Ages. In the 17th century, the estate belonged to the de Gorce noble family of Saint-Julien. The château was built during this period, and the estate was extended through the acquisition of additional plots. In 1824, the château was bought by the Baron de Brane, owner of the prestigious Château Brane-Cantenac, also in Saint-Julien. Baron de Brane invested heavily to modernise the facilities and improve the quality of the wines produced at Lagrange. In 1842, the château was sold to the Cendoya family, of Basque origin. They continued to modernise and improve the estate. The vineyard was extended and restructured, and the buildings were renovated.

In 1983, the château was acquired by the Japanese company Suntory, becoming the first French wine estate to be bought by a foreign company. Suntory invested heavily in the estate, modernising the equipment and renewing the vines. They also hired oenologist Marcel Ducasse to oversee the vinification process. In 2005, Suntory sold Château Lagrange to the French spirits company La Maison les Domaines Delon, owned by the Delon family. The Delon family also owns Château Léoville-Las Cases, another Saint-Julien Grand Cru Classé. This acquisition enabled synergy between the two estates and more harmonious management of the vineyards. Since then, the Delon family has continued to manage Château Lagrange successfully. The vineyard covers around 118 hectares and is planted mainly with traditional Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Château Lagrange produces wines renowned for their power, elegance and ability to age well.

Today, Château Lagrange is classified as a third growth in the official Bordeaux wine classification of 1855, testifying to its quality and reputation within the Saint-Julien appellation.

L’article Château Lagrange Saint julien 3ème Grand Cru Classé 1990 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

Domaine Leflaive is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the Burgundy region of France. It is located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The history of the estate dates back to the 18th century, when Claude Leflaive, a wine merchant turned landowner, acquired vineyards in the area. Over the generations, the Leflaive family devoted themselves to viticulture and the production of high quality wines. It was at the beginning of the 20th century that Joseph Leflaive, son of Claude, undertook major work to improve the quality of the estate's wines. In particular, he introduced the use of organic farming methods, which were avant-garde at the time, and developed a reputation for his exceptional white wines made from the Chardonnay grape.

In the 1980s, Anne-Claude Leflaive, Joseph's granddaughter, took over the reins of the estate. She continued the family's commitment to biodynamic viticulture, an approach that integrates the principles of organic farming with a more holistic view of the vine and its environment. Through her leadership, Domaine Leflaive became one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy.

Under Anne-Claude's leadership, the estate experienced a spectacular rise and its wines were recognised internationally for their exceptional quality. The estate's vineyards cover about 25 hectares, mainly in Puligny-Montrachet, with parcels in prestigious appellations such as Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. Since Anne-Claude's death in 2015, the estate has been run by her cousin, Brice de La Morandière, and her sister, Édouard Parinet, who continue to carry on the Domaine Leflaive tradition of excellence by producing white wines of great finesse, aromatic purity and exceptional depth. Today, Domaine Leflaive is considered one of the world's finest white wine producers, and its bottles are highly sought after by wine lovers and collectors.

Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2007 is a wine of great elegance and finesse. It is currently at its peak, offering a perfect combination of ripe fruit and the typical characteristics of great white Burgundy wines.

L’article Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon 2011 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

Founded in 1872 by William Ponsot, the estate is now run by Laurent Ponsot, a fifth generation member of the family. The history of Domaine Ponsot is marked by a constant commitment to quality and tradition. From the outset, William Ponsot sought to produce wines of excellence by exploiting the exceptional terroirs of the Côte de Nuits region. He acquired parcels in prestigious appellations such as Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis and Chapelle-Chambertin. Over the decades, Domaine Ponsot has preserved its heritage and philosophy. Laurent Ponsot, who took over the reins of the estate in the 1980s, was a true pioneer in biodynamic viticulture. It was founded by Lalou Bize-Leroy, a visionary woman with a passion for wine, in 1988. However, the history of the estate goes back much further. The Leroy family originates from Burgundy and has a long tradition of winemaking. Henri Leroy, Lalou Bize-Leroy's father, was a renowned wine merchant and owner of Maison Leroy, a wine trading company founded in 1868. Lalou Bize-Leroy inherited his father's passion for wine and decided to create his own estate to focus on producing high quality wines. Domaine Leroy owns vineyards in some of the most prestigious appellations in Burgundy, including Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Meursault and Chambolle-Musigny. The estate's vines are cultivated biodynamically, an approach that favours respect for the natural balance of the vine and the terroir.

Lalou Bize-Leroy is renowned for her rigorous and demanding approach to viticulture. She voluntarily limits the yields of her vines to favour a better concentration and expression of the aromas in the grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand, and a careful selection is made to retain only the highest quality grapes. Domaine Leroy wines are considered to be among the best in Burgundy, if not the world. They are often praised for their purity, elegance and ability to reflect the terroir from which they are made. The estate's vintages are produced in limited quantities, making them highly sought after by wine lovers and collectors.

Lalou Bize-Leroy is an iconic figure in Burgundy and a pioneer in the production of high quality biodynamic wines. Her commitment to quality and expression of terroir has helped make Domaine Leroy one of the most respected and admired estates in the region.

L’article Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2011 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

The origins of the estate go back to the middle of the 19th century, but it is Amédée Merme who is going to enlarge and structure the vineyard at the beginning of the 20th century. Accompanied by his son Armand, they sought to ensure the reputation of the estate in France and beyond by producing quality wines. In the 1970s, Marie France Merme continued the work of her father Armand with her husband Henri Perrot-Minot. After Armand's death, Marie-France and Henri took over the reins of the estate, which was renamed Perrot-Minot. Together, they perpetuated the tradition of quality and innovation that had already prevailed in the previous two generations.

In 1993, their son Christophe Perrot-Minot joined the domain and took over the management, after having worked as a wine broker for seven years. His previous experiences have given him a deep and broad knowledge of the winegrowing profession.

L’article Domaine Perrot-Minot Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes 2006 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.

The estate was founded by Emmanuel Rouget, the nephew of Henri Jayer, a highly respected winemaker in Burgundy. Emmanuel worked with his uncle for several years before creating his own domaine in 1985. At first, the domaine was very small, with only two hectares of vines, but Emmanuel quickly gained a reputation for producing high quality wines. Over the years, he purchased additional parcels of vineyards, bringing the total area of the estate to about 8 hectares. Today the estate is managed by his son, Nicolas Rouget, who worked with his father for many years and inherited his know-how.

Today, Domaine Emmanuel Rouget is considered one of the best wine producers in Burgundy, with an international reputation for its elegant and complex red wines. The wines of the estate are highly sought after and are often very expensive, due to the quality and rarity of the production.

L’article Domaine Emmanuel Rouget Echézeaux Grand Cru 2005 est apparu en premier sur Riviera Cellars Wine Supply French Riviera.
